Frequently Asked Questions
If you don't find the information you need
below, please feel free to contact us for
more information about our laser paper and media.
1. What types of printers can I
use your paper in?
- Our laser papers are designed
to be used in laser printers and laser copiers, both color and
monochrome. Our laser papers are not suitable for use in
desktop inkjet printers.
2. What does "gsm"
stand for?
- GSM is short for grams per
square meter. The higher the gsm, the heavier the paper.
We use the gsm measurement to identify our papers' weights,
because it provides a more intuitive comparison between the
different weights of paper.
3. Is your glossy laser paper
printable on both sides?
- Yes, our Glossy Brochure
Paper, Premium Glossy Paper and Glossy Postcard Paper are
coated on both sides, so that both sides of the paper exhibit
the same glossy appearance and finish.
4. Tips for getting the best
results with your paper:
- Allow your paper to acclimate
to the printing environment at least 48 hours prior to
printing.
- Fan the stack of paper on all
sides before loading it into your printer's media tray. This
will allow a small layer of air in between each sheet, to
facilitate your printer's loading mechanism in loading the
paper one sheet at a time.
- For any specialty or heavier
than normal media, it is always best to choose the paper
feeding tray with the straightest paper path through the
printer. This is often the multi-purpose tray, but check your
particular printer's manual to confirm.
- Choose the appropriate media
setting for the type of paper or media that you will be using.
This allows the printer to accommodate different thicknesses
in the media -- heavier papers need to travel through the
fuser assembly at a slower speed in order for the toner to
fuse to the paper properly.
5. What are the basis weights of
your papers?
- Our Glossy Brochure Paper
(146.73 gsm) has an approximate basis weight of 80# text.
- Our Premium Glossy Paper
(218.22 gsm) has an approximate basis weight of 80# cover.
- Our Glossy Postcard Paper
(270.9 gsm) has an approximate basis weight of 100# cover.
6. What does "basis
weight" mean, anyway?
- The basis weight of any given
paper is the weight of 500 sheets (one ream) of that paper,
when cut to the industry standard size for the specific grade
of paper. What makes this way of measuring paper weights
confusing is that the industry standard size is different for
each grade. For example, the standard size for text-grade
paper is 25" x 38", but for cover-grade paper it is
20" x 26"! Please see the table below for a brief,
approximate comparison of
paper grades, their basis weights and their weight when
measured in gsm.
